Flash & Director Studio Lab
Designing Multiuser Web Sites
Résumé
Would you prefer to play a game against a machine or another human? Chat with a database, or another human? Learn from a cyber-teacher or from another human? This book takes you through the design and implementation of a new world, where the visually rich content of Macromedia's Flash and Director motion graphics combines with the compelling human interaction of multiuser applications.
It's a fantastic challenge - mainly because humans are less predictable than their mechanical counterparts - but the rewards are demonstrable in the form of improved visitor experiences, user loyalty and higher site traffic. Face it : playing a game against a computer opponent can be fun, but beating a human opponent is more satisfying.
What this book covers
This book takes you from a starting knowledge of Flash
and/or Director to a thorough appreciation of the factors
involved in using them to design multiuser applications. We
recognize that you may well have a definite preference for
Flash or Director, but we believe that it's impossible to
give a clear view of the potential routes for graphically
rich multiuser experiences without reference to both
technologies. This book therefore contains two separate
sections on the two technologies, with clear and neutral
guidance as to the best uses for each.
This book fully adheres to the friends of ED standard of
practicat, step-by-step examples, including :
- Flash and Shockwave chat applications
- A multiuser Flash whiteboard application
- Flash and Shockwave avatar-based applications
- A turn-based Flash board game
- A fully functional 3D Shockwave racing game
Who is this book for?
- People who have a sound knowledge of Flash and ActionScript and/or Director and Lingo who want to introduce a new dimension to their design work
