Windows Script Host

Dino Esposito - Collection Programmer's reference

372 pages, parution le 10/06/1999

Résumé

The Windows Scripting Host (WSH) is Microsoft's evolutionary answer to
a much-needed programming environment for the Windows Desktop. In the same
way that Office 2000 provides VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) as a
developer tool, Windows 98 and Windows 2000 contain the Windows Scripting
Host.

The WSH enables you to use scripting languages to directly access the
Windows shell, automate operations within Windows and generally customize
the Windows environment to your individual or corporate needs.

Two programming languages, VBScript and JScript are supported by the WSH.
Since these are scripting languages it is not necessary to have the full VB
or Java environment. Scripts can be created using a simple text editor like
Windows Notepad.

This book not only shows you how to use the Windows Scripting Host itself,
but also teaches how to program in VBScript and JScript. Related topics are
also covered, for example, how to access other automation objects from the
WSH and how to extend the WSH features with your own ActiveX components.
Also, there is a complete reference to the WSH object model. In short, this
book will show you everything you need to know to start applying the Windows
Scripting Host and how to customize it to your needs.
