Résumé

Man cannot bear to live with absurdity. He has a vital need to give meaning to his experience. Today, the deep socio-cultural mutation that is taking place has unseated all beliefs, urging individuals to examine their own convictions, pose questions to which some propose definitive answers, for example: why should we believe, or not believe? In this book, Michel Hubaut is not making an apology for the Christian creed, he is inviting each reader to take the risk of embarking on the dynamic path of faith, without skirting the real difficulties that people encounter today. His approach consists in listening to those who have never believed or who have abandoned their faith. As a believer himself, he seeks to understand what the Spirit can tell us through the distorted image of the Christian faith that is sometimes projected by the mirror of the world. He is convinced of one thing: today, we are in great need of witnesses to the faith, unabashed but without hostility, modest, lucid enough to love the times they live in and identify its greatness and its limits, respectful of God's workings in the heart of each individual. Quite the contrary to the crusaders who believe they hold the Truth and despise those who doubt it. All Christians are invited to rediscover the vital energy at the fountain of Christ's Gospel, to strip it free of the husk of religion. It is also a question of demonstrating one's faith that the God of Jesus Christ, far from producing inferior human beings, is giving us new reasons to live. It would be dishonest to talk about the joy of believing without mentioning that faith is a journey, a long-term journey, a story always in the writing, a doubt constantly overcome. In truth, the God of Jesus Christ is so astonishing that he asks us more questions than he gives us answers. Yet they are the questions that urge us to the essential interrogations.
