It didn't drive itself, but it did take me to some interesting places. The idea of a self-driving car is fascinating to me not for its capabilities, but for its place in our imagination. #2 I wanted to understand AI better, so I trained the car to drive at random, taking almost every side road and turning I came across. By watching me, the car learned to get lost too. #3 The umwelt is the environment of a particular organism, and it is created by that organism's knowledge and perceptions. It is a useful concept in robotics as well as biology. #4 The images above illustrate a little of how the car sees the world. The important details are the lines on the side of the road, which are important to the car because they help it stay on the road.
