The children were excited to tell people about the air raid the next day at school. But when the siren went off, the parents were not as happy.#2 When we saw that there was no danger threatening Prague, we returned home. In the meantime, our president, Eduard Beneš, had resigned and Emil Hácha had taken his place. That was called the Second Republic.#3 In March of 1939, the German army invaded Czechoslovakia. We were now called the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The mood at school was sad, and the newspapers were full of anti-Jewish articles.#4 The anti-Jewish orders were getting worse. There was an order that expelled Jewish children from state schools, and I was unhappy about it. I had to bear up and wait for other, much worse things to happen.
