Solar Thermal Technologies for Buildings
The State of the Art
Mat Santamouris, Collectif James and James
Résumé
Solar thermal is now a proven technology in terms of reliability, cost benefit, and low environmental impact. The integration of solar thermal systems and installations into the design of buildings can provide a clean, efficient and sustainable low-energy solution for heating and cooling, whilst, taken in a wider context, contributing to climate protection.
Solar thermal technologies for buildings - the state of the art brings together the work of sixteen internationally recognized experts to present the most current theory and practice for solar thermal applications in buildings. In ten chapters, this book examines how solar thermal techniques can be implemented in building design to achieve the optimum of energy efficiency and thermal comfort.
Key areas covered include:
- Passive solar heating
- Active solar heating and cooling
- Spectrally selective materials
- Advanced control systems
- IT systems for monitoring, planning and design
- Natural ventilation
- Cooling by natural sinks
- Thermal comfort
- Passive cooling
- Integration of solar energy in the urban environment
Solar thermal technologies for buildings: the state of the art is a valuable reference work for those currently implementing, or those about to implement, these technologies. It will be indispensable to anyone working on solar buildings and energy efficiency: in particular, architects, engineers, physicists, researchers and academics.
