Sécularisation, séparation et guerre scolaire
André Lanfrey - Collection Histoire
Résumé
--
At a time when the French national education board is concerned about introducing instruction on religion to the school curriculum, when the ministry of the interior is striving to give an official status to Islam, and some are putting into question the laws of 1905, we are commemorating the centenary of three laws that profoundly affected the links between the Church and the State in France: the law of 1901 governing associations, the secularization and the exile of congregations (1902-1903) and the law establishing separation in 1905. It is less well known that this secular assault, led by Pierre Waldeck-Rousseau then Emile Combes, was to set off a war of schools that can still rouse passions. Thus the three nouns in the title appear like three phases in a system, an imposed redeployment in temporal and spiritual domains.
