What could possibly justify a meeting between a philosopher and an internationally renowned dancer? In other words, how can such an encounter enlighten our thoughts about man's destiny and vocation in an original manner? This art 'incarnate' - which is dance - offers a lively vision of the meaning of human existence. Presenting astonishing perspectives to the reader, this 'essay in two voices' approaches man 'in movement', avoiding the rigidity of abstraction. Consequently the philosopher's attempt to reconcile thought with life finds a deep echo in the reflection proposed by the dancer, whose path is leading to the Absolute. By relating their approaches in respect of their differences, the words of Mireille Nègre and Éric de Rus progress from the inner self towards a centre of gravity that unifies this essay. They refer to this centre as the 'gesture'. Yet whether we consider that of the dancer or the thinker, the anthropological challenge is the same in all our existence: to give flesh to the life in the most intimate part of the human heart. By viewing life as a creation, the ideas expressed here attain a universal dimension. To create: the very essence of life, the total experience through which each human existence can be accomplished.
