They expound no theory they do not set out to prove anything. Whether or not addressed to the God of Israel, they speak of personal and collective experience where suffering and joy go hand in hand, together with remembrance, desire and hope. What is being played out here is the drama of humanity. It is no surprise that since Antiquity, Jews and Christians of various faiths have recognised their own existences in these psalms, and have made the Psalter their prayer book. In this book, the readers will find an excellent introduction to the Psalter in its entirety and to the various interpretations of the psalms provided by the most recent exegesis.
