Résumé
--
His two Memoirs, "Mémoire sur mes vingt premières années" and "Mémoire sur l'occasion de mes écrits" recount the life and work of Henri de Lubac from his birth in 1896 to the end of his military career in 1917 and from the beginning of his life as a teacher in 1929 to 1981. "Mémento du Concile" tells us more about his activities as a theologian, before and during the Council. Inspired by his friend and colleague Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Henri de Lubac did not write autobiographical memoirs he preferred to focus on his intellectual development and his work as a teacher. He allowed himself to be guided by friends' questions, and, like Augustine with his "Retractationes" and Newman his "Apologia", he also wrote under the eye of God. His memoirs tell us as much about personalities and events of his times as about the author. Although he was not himself a theologian, he unhesitatingly draws force from the sources of "plenary theology", holy theology, "the work of faith and love before intelligence" (Xavier Tilliette). Yet this work raises intelligence to the level of things known only to faith and love: the plenitude of God in Christ and the Church.
