Fondateur de l'École biblique de Jérusalem en 1890, le père Lagrange a renouvelé l'interprétation de la Bible et offert aux chrétiens des chemins d'accès aux Écritures, marqués tant par une rigueur scientifique que par une authentique fidélité à la tradition. Dominicain, soucieux de rejoindre la conscience de tout homme, il s'est consacré au salut des âmes en combattant aussi bien le rationalisme que le fondamentalisme. Homme de l'Évangile, il a fait connaître, avec un certain esprit critique, la Vérité qui rend libre. Loin d'opposer l'étude de la Parole de Dieu au chapelet, le père Lagrange a nourri chaque jour sa foi en contemplant les mystères du Rosaire. Ses écrits témoignent de sa grande intimité avec la Vierge Immaculée. Plus il approfondissait la Bible de manière scientifique, plus il ressentait le besoin de s'unir au Fils de Marie dans la prière. Celui qui se disait lui-même, avec fierté, « fils de Marie » continue de faire aimer Jésus à travers ses commentaires des évangiles. The reputation of Father Marie-Joseph Lagrange is above all based on his exegesis. But this book reveals his Marial spirituality and his devotion to the prayer of the Rosary. Founder of the Biblical School of Jerusalem in 1890, Father Lagrange renovated the interpretation of the Bible in those times, marked by fundamentalism. A Dominican keen to reach the conscience of every human being, he devoted his life to saving souls by combatting rationalism. A man of the Gospel, he made known the Truth that frees men's souls, albeit with a critical mind.
