Résumé
--
All through his life, Proudhon was haunted by the figure of Jesus. References to the man from Nazareth, frequent in his correspondence and in his "carnets", are to be found in his works on economic, social and political subjects. But this interest in Jesus is especially remarkable in his published or even unpublished works. In 1839, when he was thirty, Proudhon wrote notes on the proofs of a bible which he was copy-editing for a printer in Besançon. He went on jotting down his comments until the last days of his life. He wrote that his "true masters" were "the bible, Adam Smith and Hegel, in that order." We find long developments on Jesus on the works published before his death, especially "De la justice dans la Révolution et dans l'Église", and in those books he left unfinished that were published only after his death, especially "Jésus et les Origines du christianisme". These texts - sometimes only informal notes - present considerable variation they represent the vitality of his thinking and writing. A critic of Strauss and Renan, Proudhon represents a highly original Jesus in the vision of the 19th century. He formed the neologism messaneosis", an analogy with"apotheosis", to designate the social creation of the Messiah: in the range of messianisms, Jesus selon Proudhon presents an extreme case, for Jesus is hailed as a messiah because he is an anti-Messiah. The study of the ensemble of the texts quoted in the book will lead readers to discover that Proudhon was a pioneer in the sociology of religions, as well as an exegete, a historian and a philosopher of history. Strangely enough, previous publications about Proudhon and his position in relation to God and religion have paid little attention to the presence of Jesus in his work. The aim of this book is to remedy that absence."
