Résumé
--
The history of Sweden is not very well known to other nations, but they are often completely ignorant as regards its religious history. This volume by Patrick-Dominique Linck provides a historico-religious retrospective spanning from the Reformation to the early 20th century, highlighting its different theological, spiritual, literary, political, economic and social aspects. After discussing the implantation and consolidation of Lutheranism within the Vasa dynasty, the author examines the various Protestant spiritual movements of the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as the arrival of the Moravian brethren in Sweden and the development of Pietism in the 17th century. The 19th and 20th centuries were marked by a resurgence of Revivalist movements and by the installation of foreign independent Churches (Methodists, Baptists, Adventists, Pentecostalists...), not forgetting the founding of specifically Swedish independent Churches. The State Religion had to cope with this proliferation that continued up till the 1930s.
