Épitres et lettres - ier - iie siècle
Régis Burnet - Collection Lectio divina
Résumé
--
What distinguishes Christian writings from other writings from Antiquity, like that of Pline the young or Seneca? When he wrote the first Christian epistles, did Paul invent a genre? Did his successors use him as a model? To answer these questions, the author analyses the epistles of early Christianity (1st - 2nd centuries) from the literary point of view. Setting aside the usual distinctions between canonic and non-canonic texts, between Paul's letters and Catholic epistles, the author studies the epistolary genre in its ensemble: Paul, James, John, Peter and Jude, but also Clement of Rome, Barnaby, Ignatius of Antioch and Polycarp of Smyrne. His original approach permits him to show that all these texts have a special relation with presence and memory, but also that certain of Paul's letters do not bear his usual style and can legitimately be considered as being wrongly credited to him. In so doing, he treats the question of pseudepigraphy.
