Dom lambert beauduin - un homme d'eglise
Louis Bouyer - Collection Bibliothèque du Cerf
Résumé
--
'One day, during the conventual Mass, an intuition came to him that was to unify his existence as a monk and a priest, as well as his intellectual life. It is in the Mass, as the liturgy reveals its mystery, that the Church is incarnated. In the same way, it is in the deepest theology that the Church can reveal the meaning of Mass. So liturgy, for him, was no longer simply piety, so deep and beautiful that it had to be democratized. He was to discover that liturgy is the piety of the Church itself. At the same time, in the panegyric mentioned in the Epistle to the Hebrews, in the"celebratory assembly"of God's people which is the Eucharist, he found, at last, the"theological place"of the Church which he had sought in vain in classic manuals.' [Louis Bouyer]. In January 1960, Dom Lambert Beauduin died, as his friend John XXIII was preparing the Council that would be devoted to the two great combats of his life: liturgical renewal and the development of Catholic ecumenism. In this 'evocation' of the Benedictine's life, Louis Bouyer - deeply marked and inspired by the life and work of Dom Lambert - permits us to grasp the essence of the deep unity of that double orientation, describing his personality and his spiritual physiognomy in unforgettable style. With its salutary return to the basics, this reprint will contribute to today's debate on 'liturgical peace'."
