Aristote et la question du monde

L'oeuvre d'Aristote fait la synthèse du courant de la pensée grecque dont l'influence domine toute l'histoire de la métaphysique. Ses choix continuent d'orienter la tradition philosophique il importe donc de les voir comme tels, dans ce qu'ils ont de décisif, mais aussi de problématique. Les plus importants se regroupent autour du concept de « monde ». Ce terme désigne soit l'ensemble de ce qui est présent en son arrangement ordonné, soit, de façon plus énigmatique, ce dans quoi nous sommes, ce à quoi nous venons en naissant - notre présence irréductible à tout autre dans le monde. Fascinée par le concept cosmologique de monde, la pensée grecque a le plus souvent enjambé son concept phénoménologique. L'oeuvre d'Aristote témoigne ainsi du refoulement du second par le premier : la présence durable de l'univers devient le modèle de ce que signifie « être ». La façon dont nous « sommes » est alors masquée au profit d'un étant particulier, l'homme. À chaque fois, le caractère total de la présence le cède à un étant souverain : la sphère cosmique englobe l'univers, l'homme récapitule le vivant, la contemplation accomplit l'activité. Aristote laisse pourtant deviner aussi le concept phénoménologique de monde qui lui fournit son point de départ : la théologie de la pensée de la pensée, l'ontologie de l'acte et du mouvement, la psychologie de l'intellect agent transposent, mais évitent aussi bien l'expérience que nous faisons de notre être-dans-le-monde.

Fascinated by the cosmological concept of the world, Greek philosophy often skipped over its phenomenological concept. The work of Aristotle is a testimony of the former eclipsing the latter: the lasting presence of the universe becomes the model for what 'being' signifies. The way we 'are' is masked by a particular being: Man. In every instance, the total nature of presence gives way to a sovereign being: the cosmic sphere encompasses the universe man sums up living things contemplation fulfils activity. Yet Aristotle also implicitly evokes the phenomenological concept of the world, which gives him his departure point: the theology of thinking about thinking the ontology of the act and movement the psychology of the agent intellect, transpose, but also avoid the experience we make of our being-in-the-world.
