L'auteur - John Meade Falkner

John Meade Falkner (1858-1932), né dans l'Oxfordshire, est le fils d'un pasteur de village. Après avoir accompli à Oxford des études d'archéologie, de paléographie, d'histoire médiévale et d'héraldique, il devient le précepteur des enfants du directeur d'une importante firme d'armement, sir Andrew Noble. Leur éducation achevée, sir Noble l'engage dans son entreprise, où cet intellectuel rêveur réussit si bien qu'il finit par y occuper à son tour le fauteuil directorial ! À ce titre, il sillonne toute l'Europe pour négocier des contrats d'armement, et profite de ses longs voyages en train pour écrire. Il publiera ainsi deux romans fantastiques, "The Lost Stradivarius" en 1895, et "The Nebuly Coast" en 1903, puis "Moonfleet" qui paraît en 1898.
