Résumé
The play revolves around the character Alceste, a virtuous and selfless woman who is willing to sacrifice her life for the sake of her husband, Admetus. In Greek mythology, Admetus has been granted the gift of avoiding death if someone else willingly gives up their life in his place. Alceste chooses to do so out of her deep love for him.
