Résumé

Through eight previous editions, the last word in COBOL has been the Stern & Stern text. Now the ninth edition of Structured COBOL Programming has been revised to meet the needs of the 21st century! Here are some of the changes the Sterns have made to keep you on the fast track to COBOL for the year 2000 and beyond :
  • A fully integrated explanation of the Year 2000 (Y2K) Problem and its remedies, why it occurred, and suggestions for making all COBOL code Y2K compliant
  • An emphasis on COBOL 85 coding, while providing a limited discusion of the older COBOL 74 code, along with changes--both approved and proposed--in the forthcoming new standard
  • Internet resources related to COBOL throughout the text. Net icons are used to reference specific sites on the Web
  • More material on indexed and relative disk file processing, including the START statement, DYNAMIC access of files, ALTERNATE RECORD KEYS, and FILE STATUS codes
  • More material on multiple-level tables and arrays
  • In-depth discussions on intrinsic functions
  • An emphasis on screen layouts and interactive programs
  • The ninth edition is packaged with: (1) a syntax reference guide and (2) a disk containing all programs illustrated in the text and the data sets for all Programming Assignments.
