Résumé
This book :
- Places ADSI in context - looking in detail at the kinds
of problems that ADSI has been designed to solve.
- Examines what exactly directories are and how they are
structured.
- Covers Microsoft Management Console (MMC), the Windows
Installer, and Windows Management
Instrumentation(WMI).
- Includes chapters on Authentication and Authorization
with ADSI and how the Kerberos security protocols
work.
- Develops a full blown ADSI application
This book is aimed at developers who are familiar with
programming in their own language, but who want a
sufficient understanding of directories and administration
to be able to code up software that smoothly integrates
with the new technologies in Windows 2000. Knowledge of
developer-type topics - for example that you understand
explaining, for example, how Windows 2000 domains or what
COM is about - is assumed. But when it comes to Kerberos
security works, these are examined from scratch.
As far as language is concerned, examples are presented in
C++, VB, VBA and ASP (using VB Script) depending on
whichever language is most appropriate for the particular
task at hand.

Robinson is a recognized expert in Microsoft technologies, and he has authored many well-known .NET titles, covering topics from ADSI, to ASP, to pure C#. Robinson lives in Lancaster, England, where he oversees the ASP Today website and other game development ventures.
