Policy-based networking
Architecture and Algorithms
Résumé
Along with having written many papers and journal articles
on networking subjects, Verma holds several patents related
to networking technologies. He is an active participant in
various industrial forums, such as the IETF and ATM Forum,
and also acts as an advisor to the IBM and Tivoli product
divisions in the networkîng arena. His current research
interests include performance management and Quality of
Service in IP networks, the use of policies to simplify
network performance management and security, and the use of
content distribution networks to improve dynarmic
application performance.
The Technology Series is a compreliensive and authoritative
set of guides tc, the most important computing standards of
today. Each title in this series is aimed at bringing
computing professionals closer to, the scientists and
engineers behind the technological implementations that
will change tomorrow's innovations in computing.
The ability to utilize products and equipment that deliver
policy features is a key competitive advantage in the
networking marketplace. Policy-Based Networking:
Architecture and Algorithms provides operators and
architects of IP networks with an under-the-hood look at
policies that will enable them to simplify the operations
and management of their networks. This authoritative
refèrence examines:
o Technical issues relevant to management consultants whose
clients operate IP networks
o Implications of policy in such areas as Quahty of
Service, IP network security (IPsec), and traffic
engineering
o Standards currently being developed te, represent
policies
This practical resource will help you:
o Manage SLAs or secure communications in your network by
applying various algorithms
o Check and validate policies specified by an administrator
for inconsistencies, mistakes, or impossible goals
o Translate high-level policies concerning business needs
into low-level policies for the networking technologies
tbat support those needS
o Distribute precise policies generated by a management
tool to différent network devices
o Find inform ation about the different users,
applications, and machines that constitute the IP
network using the Policy management tool
