Résumé

The Only Authorized Textbook for the CCNP Cisco Networking Academy Program

CCNP Cisco Networking Academy Program: Multilayer Switching Companion Guide is the Cisco(r)-approved textbook for the multilayer switching course of the Cisco Networking Academy Program. This Companion Guide supplements the most current Web-based curriculum for the Networking Academy, providing intermediate-level students with the knowledge and skills needed to pass the switching certification exam and to further their career opportunities in computer networking.

This Companion Guide provides students with a solid basis of multilayer switching concepts and terminology. They will enjoy a thorough, up-to-date analysis of Ethernet switching technologies, while preparing for the CCNP switching exam that corresponds to Cisco's BCMSN course.

The following user-friendly features help students learn about Ethernet technologies:

  • An introduction to emerging switching technologies provides an overview of AVVID, QoS, multicasting, server load balancing, IEEE 802.1x, private VLANs, and VLAN ACLs.
  • Margin notes, warnings, and tech notes highlight important information, alert students to configuration pitfalls, and offer background information on related topics and real-world implementation issues.
  • Scenario-based figures, examples, and tables carefully illustrate how to implement essential campus LAN technologies.
  • Chapter summaries and Check Your Understanding questions reinforce concepts and help students evaluate their understanding before moving on to new material.

Wayne Lewis, Ph.D., CCNP, CCDP, CCAI is the co-author for thecorresponding Web-based curriculum for multilayer switching and internetwork troubleshooting. He is an assistant professor at Honolulu Community College, the Cisco Academy Manager for the Pacific Center for Advanced Technology Training, and the main contact for HCC's CATC-CCNA, CATC-CCNP, and CATC-SC Academies. Wayne is a contributing author for the Cisco Press title, Cisco Networking Academy Program: First-Year Companion Guide, Revised Printing. He earned his bachelor's degree in math from Wichita State University, where he received the Youngest Graduate Award. Wayne was named Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant for the University of Hawaii while attending graduate school.

Cisco Press is a collaboration between Cisco Systems(r), Inc., and Pearson Education that is charged with developing high-quality, cutting-edge educational and reference products for the networking industry. The products in the Cisco Networking Academy Program Series are designed to prepare students for careers in the exciting networking field. These products have proven to be strong supplements to the Web-based curriculum and are the only print companions that have been reviewed and endorsed by Cisco Systems for Cisco Networking Academy Program use.
