Recent market research has shown that developers using the CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) approach to creating distributed applications outnumber those using Microsoft's COM by nearly 2 to 1. MICO is one of the most successful CORBA implentations available today. It is one of only three CORBA applications to be certified by the Open Group as fully conforming to the CORBA specification from the OMG (Object Management Group). And, unlike its expensive commercial competitors, MICO is developed and supported by a
worldwide community of programmers as a true Open SOurce project, so readers will be able to freely use the source code on the CD to create new CORBA applications, or apply it to current projects. MICO is already used in many products, including KDE, the most sophisticated desktop for Linux.
