Introduction to Operations Research

Frederick S. Hillier, Gerald J. Lieberman

998 pages, parution le 10/03/1995 (6eme édition)

Résumé

This classic introductory textbook has established the standard of excellence in the field for nearly 30 years. An exceptionally well crafted book that provides a rigorous treatment in a stimulating manner, it is considered noteworthy for its clarity as well as an emphasis on motivation and simplicity of explanation. An abundance of realistic examples, illustrations, and exercises enliven the discussion. The comprehensive coverage is carefully organized to provide great flexibility in the selection of topics for a course as short as one quarter or as long as two semesters.

Key changes for this sixth edition include:

  • Innovative tutorial software-featuring demonstration examples, interactive routines, and automatic routines-has been expanded, improved (much larger problems now can be solved), and fully integrated with the text.
  • More than 250 new problems have been added, including six larger computer-oriented case problems.
  • Some dramatic case studies of real applications have been integrated into the initial chapters.
  • More formulation examples for linear programming and integer programming have been added.
  • Many chapters have been carefully revised to make them even more accessible for students with a modest mathematical background (e.g., basic calculus and, for several chapters, an introduction to probability theory).
