Résumé

Designed for Web application developers and Web masters, this Dynamic HTML (DHTML) tutorial helps your develop and enhance you Web site. For best understanding, you should be familiar with Web concepts and HTML 4.0.

The authors discuss the features and limits of HTML 4.0 with respect to requirements of dynamic documents. (Dynamic documents are now increasingly posted on Web sites.) They review DHTML and detail Microsoft's and Netscape's implementations -- please be aware that there are differences. The text explains the Dynamic Object Model (DOM) and Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) implementation. It focuses specifically on the proprietary enhancements and browser incompatibilities that cause many problems for programmers. The authors point out that the best way to understand DHTML pages is to build them. You learn how to work with Microsoft's and Netscape's components, models, events and properties. This enables you to build multimedia documents with sound and graphics capabilities. The authors also show how to arrange content, explaining Netscape's layer approach and the layer model. They then guide you through DHTML concept and techniques. You will create DHTML documents that look good in any environment.

While the appendices contain resources and references, the CD-ROM includes product demos, trial versions, graphics, movie samples, URLs and code from this publication. The associated Web site contains additional information.
