About the authors
Foster D. Coburn, III began using Ventura Publisher
1.0 to produce
a programming magazine while attending the University
of Kansas back in the 1980s. He also started his own
little
company, Smart Typesetting, to produce various
projects
for clients.
As Smart Typesetting grew, a product called
CorelDRAW 1.0 came along and did some incredible
things that Ventura couldn't do. Soon Foster was
doing
a lot of work using this wonderful new package.
Along the way, he created some little shareware utilities
and even helped create some
fonts for inclusion in Microsoft's TrueType Font Pack 2.
Then in 1993 the writing bug
caught hold, and he created CorelDRAW! 4
Unleashed.
That first book led Smart Typesetting to morph into the
current Unleashed
Productions, Inc. Foster and Pete teamed up to put on
CorelDRAW seminars throughout
the United States and even at a few international
destinations. Foster also co-authored
three more books, CorelDRAW 5 Unleashed,
CorelDRAW 6 Unleashed and CorelDRAW
7: The Official Guide.
The books and seminars led to a videotape series on
CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-
PAINT for versions 6, 7 and 8 and a version 9 series should
be available by the time you
read this. In addition to the one-day seminars, Unleashed
Productions now conducts
three-day Boot Camps for those who want to learn CorelDRAW
inside and out.
Unleashed Productions continued to grow in 1999. A utility,
EZ Metrics, was
created to aid CorelDRAW users in making technical
illustrations. You'll find a working
demo version of the product on the CD in this book. They
also began selling a series of
multimedia CD-ROMs and doing Web design for a number of
clients. The biggest
growth has been at the companies Web site
(http://www.unleash.com) which has
grown to be a terrific resource for anyone creating
graphics, especially with
CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT.
Peter McCormick became involved with art and
computers relatively late in life. At age 40 he discovered
a
latent talent for painting on canvas. This discovery
eventually led him to the world of computer art. In 1992,
at
age 53, he discovered computers and CorelDRAW. It was
love at first byte. He entered Corel's World Design
contest
that first year and was awarded Grand Prize in the
Landmarks division for an image called Venice. That
image
appeared on the August 1992 cover of PC
Magazine
following the contest.
