Résumé

We are very proud to present the third edition of this book on programming J2ME/MIDP. We could not have achieved this without our loyal readers. The positive feedback we received has challenged us to take a great book and make it even better in this third edition.

This book is about programming your cell phone or PDA using J2ME/MIDP. It is for anyone who wants to have fun while learning J2ME and MIDP. Instead of working through tedious background theory, we get you up and running from day one. You will get your hands dirty with real working code, creating applications soon after you start. We assume you've come from a J2SE world, and so we include a comparison at every step of the way to make your learning fast and fun.

As with the first two editions, this edition covers all facets of MIDP. You will learn about the MIDlet life cycle, networking, persistent storage, user interfaces, the Game API, and much more.

Many new topics are covered in this edition. We've added coverage of the FileConnection and PDA APIs so you can work with your device's file system, address book, and appointments. New coverage on the Bluetooth APIs and OBEXAPIs lets you take advantage of local device networking. You'll get a jump start on writing the next great 3D mobile game with our material on the 3D API. The WMA chapter provides code for exploiting ubiquitous text messaging. Coverage of MMAPI shows you how to play music and even video on a new generation of powerful devices. Finally, we updated the entire book to the JTWI standard, including MIDP 2.0 and CLDC 1.1.

Join us in a rewarding exploration of J2ME/MIDP. Discover the book that delighted thousands of readers all over the planet.
