Beginning C# Databases
From Novice to Professional - Everything you need to build C# applications against relational databases.
James Huddleston, Ranga Raghuram, Scott Allen, Syed Fahad Gilani, Jacob Hammer Pederson, Jon Reid - Collection The Expert's Voice in .NET
Résumé
If you're a C# programmer who needs to access relational databases, this book is for you! We'll teach you everything you need to know about relational databases, the database language SQL, and ADO.NET so that you'll be able to program a variety of Windows Forms applications, ASP.NET applications, and even XML database applications.
We devote several chapters to database concepts, so even if you've never used a relational database or SQL, you'll learn how to create tables, store and update data in them, and write queries to retrieve data from them. You'll also see how Visual Studio .NET can do much of the work for you.
MSDE is the tool of choice for the step-by-step examples you'll work through in this book, since it's as powerful as SQL Server and available for free from Microsoft-but you'll also learn how to connect your C# applications to Access, DB2, MySQL, and Oracle. This means you can implement all the examples in this book using whatever relational database you prefer.
We've fully revised and updated this book from its first edition to reflect .NET 1.1 and offer you a glimpse of working with ADO.NET 2.0 so you also have some idea of what the future holds.
We hope you'll have as much fun learning about C# databases as we have working with them. Once you've finished this book, you'll be able to use C#, SQL, and ADO.NET to confidently access relational databases of your choice.
