AFC Black Book
The Programmer's Guide to Mastering the Application Foundation Classes
Résumé
- Teaches Java programmers to use Microsoft's new Application Foundation Classes (AFC)
- Compares AFC and Java's AWT, which will enable the reader to more easily grasp the concepts
- Applies previous programming knowledge to the sample projects and can be used as a quick reference
- Shows AFC working in the context of running applets and applications, giving the reader a chance to understand how to use AFC
- Covers advanced techniques that will help the reader program AFC and apply the techniques to enhance applets, applications, and Web sites.
- CD Features
-
- Dozens of fully operational programs to demonstrate topics covered in the book (including source code)
- Java programming tools to use with AFC
- Free applets and functional samples
- About The Book
- AFC Black Book teaches Java programmers how to
use AFC classes by presenting a series of hands-on projects
that demonstrate the required programming techniques in the
context of running Java applets and applications.
Application Foundation Classes (AFC) are a rich suite of
graphics and user interface, written entirely in Java. AFC
builds on top of the basic Java AWT library to provide a
powerful set of building blocks for Internet and Java
application developers. The book progresses from basic AFC
programming to advanced topics, making this book the
one-stop guide to AFC programming.
AFC Black Book gives programmers a solid understanding of the classes that will enable them to produce user interfaces for their Java projects similar to standard Windows applications. Because these are 100% Java, they can run on multiple platforms without making any changes.

- Market Profile
-
- Microsoft has been extremely aggressive with its Internet-related products. It is obviously dedicated to taking over the Web as much as it can. While Sun's Java is a force to be reckoned with, AFC is one way Microsoft is getting its piece of the Java action. AFC is still in its beta stage. However, this powerful class library will get a lot of respect and be used extensively by Java programmers. Currently AFC is free for the downloading, which means many people can give it a try with little risk, almost guaranteeing a user base in the coming months.
L'auteur - Clayton Walnum
Clayton Walnum started programming computers in 1982,
when he traded an IBM Selectric typewriter to buy an Atari
400 computer (16K of RAM!). Clay has since acquired a
degree in computer science, and written over 30 books
(translated into many languages) covering everything from
computer gaming to 3D graphics programming. He's also
written hundreds of magazine articles and software reviews,
as well as countless programs.
