PowerBuilder is like a high-end Visual Basicit's a software development tool geared more towards the advanced programmer. It is a premier object-oriented application development tool used in development of client/server applications using many relational databases, including Sybase SQL Server, ORACLE, and ODBC. PowerBuilder is very popular; the PowerSoft forum on CompuServe is always jammed. These people are eagerly anticipating the new version of the software - release 7 - which is scheduled to come out in mid-1999. A number of new features will be found in PowerBuilder7, including:

Support of distribution and n-tier computing - PowerSoft has radically altered the
architecture for handling distributed applications.
Improved object-oriented user interface - almost all interface screens have now
changed, so the look and feel of the product is significantly different.
Wizards to help automate developmental work.
Support for Web development with Java, ActiveX, and other technologies.
