  • Based on the authors experience building real world, scalable applications for Fortune 100 companies
  • Focuses on different Windows DNA technologies and how to choose the right ones for your projects

WINDOWS DNA IS THE ARCHITECTURE to use when building robust, scalable Web applications using Microsoft technologies. DNA technologies span from the client to the data server. Programmers need to have a working knowledge of all of these technologies to build effective full-scale enterprise applications. In his no-nonsense book, Christian Gross shows developers how to harness the power of Windows DNA.

Gross offers programmers key techniques learned from his own extensive experience building Web applications. The author takes you step-by-step from the basics of Windows DNA and designing your application to the quality control process and maintenance of your application. Gross brings the discussion of DNA from the realm of whiteboard-ware to real world implementation. He covers special topics in DNA programming and shares his own set of best practices for building Windows DNA applications.

Topics covered include: patterns, creating the thin client, creating the rich client, building your Web application, designing and implementing COM Interfaces, developing transactional components, developing MSMQ components, COM+ asynchronous services, accessing the distributed data, optimizing the data access tier, and more.

CD-ROM INCLUDED!

The CD contains all of the sample applications and libraries presented in the book and a few utilities that may help your DNA application development process.

L'auteur - Phil Gross

Phil Gross started working with computers back in the days when punch cards were used for input and switches were set to boot the computer. His first authoring project was writing training material for 8086 assembly language programming. He continues to write training materials, and has also written books on Macromedia Director, UNIX, assembly language, OS/2 programming, and other programming topics. In 1974, Phil founded Mel Co., which offers consulting and programming support.

Phil lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, but he'd generally rather be surfing somewhere in Mexico - in warm water. According to Phil, his books would never see the light of day were it not for the collaboration with his brother Mike, who works from his home in the Oregon woods, corrects Phil's oversights, and watches his forest grow.
