
Résumé
Creating sustainable shareholder value is one of the main strategic objectives for financial institutions. This text provides a detailed analytical assessment of shareholder value creation. The first part provides a framework for analyzing shareholder value theory by discussing how shareholder value can be defined, if it can be considered a valid strategic objective for banks, and how it can be measured and created. The second part presents various empirical investigations in to order to measure shareholder value and some of its drivers. The final part analyzes the importance of these drivers in creating shareholder value and develops a new measure of bank efficiency.
L'auteur - Franco Fiordelisi
Franco Fiordelisi (MA, PhD) is Lecturer in Banking and Finance at the Faculty of Economics 'Federico Caffè' of the University of Rome III, Italy. His main research interest relates to the economics of banking and other financial institutions focusing on efficiency, productivity and shareholder value creation. His research has been published by Applied Economics, ABI and leading Italian academic journals. He has acted as a consultant to many banks, leasing and factoring companies.
L'auteur - Philip Molyneux
Philip Molyneux is currently Professor in Banking and Finance and Director of the Institute of European Finance at the University of Wales, Bangor, UK. He has published widely in the banking and financial services area. His most recent texts are Arab Banking and Financial Systems (Palgrave Macmillan, 2004) and Thirty Years of Islamic Banking (Palgrave Macmillan, 2005) both co-written with Munawar Iqbal from the Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah.
